After retiring, Jill moved to the area with her husband to be closer to their daughters. While the move was positive, she found the transition challenging at first, missing the friendships and activities she had enjoyed previously, including the sense of togetherness.
Jill first started attending the Community Hub through drop-in sessions and coffee mornings, where she had the opportunity to meet neighbours and make new friends. Over time, she became more involved and expressed an interest in supporting events and volunteering.
Through the Community Hub, Jill has received support and advice about local amenities, and the presence of Citizens Advice Mid Mercia helped her with her application for a Blue Badge. She has also given back to her community by volunteering at events, including an Afternoon Tea fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness, where she supported with refreshments and helped create a welcoming environment for others.
The Hub has made a real difference to her confidence and independence. It has helped her feel comfortable going out on her own, travelling on the local bus to appointments and meeting friends for lunch, things she may not have felt confident doing when she first moved.
Reflecting on her experience, Jill said: “I feel I’ve got my mojo back. Moving house and area at 77 is a big upheaval. I didn’t think I could make friends at my age, but the Hub has enabled me to find my old self.”

Gina, Hub Officer, shared: "Jill's confidence has grown significantly. Being able to access the Hub and its facilities independently, without her spouse, has given her the confidence to socialise with others and volunteer to support community events."
Her story is a great example of how Community Hubs help bring people together, create connections and provide a space where customers can feel supported, valued and part of their local community.
